August 28, 2007 – Along with the release of several compact photo printers and all-in-ones, HP today introduced two, single-function inkjet printers for the home or small office. The Photosmart D5360 prints photos and documents using one black and one tricolor cartridge (with optional 2-cartridge, 6-color set) from PCs, memory cards, or PictBridge cameras, all for $99. The Deskjet 6988 will sell for $129 and also prints both documents and photos, but users can do so via the printer’s networking and wireless capabilities. These two printers become available in September.

HP bundles several features that make the Photosmart D5360 useful in both a home and office setting. Quick photo printing of 26 seconds for 4-by-6-inch prints and the capability to print directly onto inkjet-printable CDs and DVDs make it handy for snapshot printing and managing music and video content. The 1.5-inch LCD screen allow for viewing of menus and image preview.  The Photosmart D5360’s fast document printing of up to 32 pages per minute (ppm) black and 24 ppm color and standard two-sided printing will be appealing for office users. The separate photo paper tray makes it easy to bridge the gap between the printer’s photo- and document-printing functions. Two cartridges (4-color) can be quickly replaced, and the 6-color option allows for better photo quality. HP has also added the new HP Smart Web printing feature to make printing web pages cleaner and easier.

The HP Deskjet 6988’s features are geared more for the office users, including built-in Ethernet and WiFi, with the simple SecureEasySetup for wireless network configuration. Print speeds of 36 ppm and 27 ppm for black and color documents, respectively, are some of the best in the inkjet field. HP Photosmart Real Life Technologies include photo features such as red-eye removal and shadow detail enhancement. For users concerned about paper waste, the Deskjet 6988dt features automatic two-sided document printing for an additional $50, and an optional 250-sheet tray is also standard on the dt model. Both features can be added to the base model. The 6988 series printers also use one black and one tri-color cartridge, with the optional 6-colors for photo printing. PictBridge connection is also possible via the front USB port. Both printers can be purchased at retailers beginning in September.
