Your backyard should be your sanctuary, the place you can sit back and enjoy the summer weather. Unfortunately, upkeep like tree trimming, lawn mowing, and pool maintenance doesn’t leave much time for relaxation.

The grueling process of outdoor upkeep has led many homeowners to invest in smart yard devices like Wi-Fi sprinklers, robot mowers, and automated pool cleaners. We’ve been huge fans of Aiper, a leader in the smart yard space, since we saw them at CES. The Aiper cordless robotic pool cleaners are some of our favorites, specifically the Scuba X1 and Scuba X1 Pro Max.

Whether you already own a robotic pool cleaner and are looking for an upgrade or want to (literally) dip your toes in the water of smart yard devices, here’s a comparison of the Scuba X1 and X1 Pro Max.

Scuba X1

Although the Scuba X1 is the base model of the Scuba X series, it’s still a robust cordless pool cleaner that’s perfect for pool owners looking for a sustainable and efficient solution. It features 6600 GPH suction and versatile 4+1 cleaning. The Scuba X1 can clean up to 70,000 gallons per hour as it seamlessly glides along walls, floors, perimeters, and the waterline. This device has a runtime of 180 minutes after a four-hour charge on the wireless docking station.

It has 16 sensors that use WavePath™ 3.0 technology, seamlessly avoiding obstacles and collisions. The Scuba X1 has underwater connection capabilities when paired with the HydroComm Pro (priced at $499.99), allowing you to check the status in real-time and One Click Retrieval that brings the device to the surface instantly.

The Scuba X1, currently on sale for $999.99, is a great device for those with a small chlorinated backyard pool that follows a regular shape. Although mapping functionality is not included, the ability to operate in saltwater pools adds significant value.

Scuba X1 Pro Max

We first saw the Scuba X1 Pro Max at CES 2025 and were wowed by its All-in-One cleaning ability. This device can clean walls, floors, elevated surfaces, slopes, horizontal and vertical waterlines, and even the surface of the water itself.

At $2299.99, the X1 Pro Max is quite a jump from the X1, but the robust features make it worth it. After a four hour charge, the X1 Pro Max can do 5.5 hours of floor cleaning or 12 hours of skimming. While the X1 has 12 sensors, the Pro Max has 40 smart sensors that use FlexiPath™ 2.0 navigation and 3D scanning for a precise clean across slopes and platforms, no matter the shape of the pool. The 8500 GPH suction and ultra-fine filter capture particles as small as 3 microns, leaving you with a crystal-clear pool. What’s also impressive is its ability to integrate with Aiper’s HydroComm Series, enabling water quality monitoring and underwater communication for a smarter, more seamless user experience.

While the Scuba X1 is great for those seeking a reliable and efficient robotic pool cleaner, the Scuba X1 Pro Max offers advanced features that are better for larger or even commercial pools that need more comprehensive care.
