Robotic lawn mowers have become a familiar part of the smart home conversation. The basic idea has already been proven: map your yard in the app, schedule the routine job, and let the robot take care of the grass with surprisingly little day-to-day intervention.

But for anyone with less-than-perfect lawns, edge trimming, hilly terrain, awkward turns, and other tricky bits can still be a problem.

That's where things get interesting at IFA 2026. As a leader in the category, MAMMOTION has introduced the next generation of its flagship LUBA series, LUBA 4 AWD, with a clear focus on these tougher lawn-care scenarios with an advanced navigation system, redesigned AWD platform, and optional trimming attachment.

The LUBA 4 AWD won't hit the market until later this year, but the idea behind it is worth watching. As robotic mowers have already figured out how to cut the grass, the next challenge calls for better answers to what it takes to finish the job.

Brings a Gardener's Standard to Robotic Mowing

MAMMOTION calls it "bringing a gardener's standards to robotic mowing." The company argues that gardeners do more than just cut grass. They read the lawn, adjust to changing terrain, avoid scuffing the turf, and pay attention to the small details that make the finished result look effortless.

Rather than chasing one headline feature, the LUBA 4 AWD takes a broader approach with upgrades that touch almost every part of the mowing process. Its new Surround Quad-Vision system expands MAMMOTION's Tri-Fusion Navigation, giving the mower a more complete view of complex gardens.

The redesigned AWD platform features independent front-wheel steering and bidirectional driving, providing greater stability on slopes, during tight turns, and on uneven ground while being gentler on the turf.

Finally, it focuses on finishing the job, combining more efficient mowing with an optional edge-trimming attachment to tackle the areas that have traditionally required a second pass with a string trimmer.

Whether it can really match a gardener remains to be seen, but LUBA 4 AWD is certainly pushing robotic mowing in that direction.

Tri-fusion Navigation Evolves to See Every Angle

One of MAMMOTION's most notable breakthroughs with the LUBA series was combining LiDAR, AI-powered Vision, and RTK navigation in one Tri-Fusion system. This helps the LUBA series stay reliable across different terrain, including wide-open lawns and shaded areas where positioning can be difficult with just LiDAR or RTK navigation.

With the LUBA 4 AWD, MAMMOTION is improving upon Tri-Fusion to Surround Quad-Vision by adding cameras around the mower and pairing them with 360° LiDAR and NetRTK. The three sensing layers together give LUBA a broader view of its surroundings, providing added redundancy to help it stay on course, reduce drift, and maintain stable mapping as conditions change.

All of this remains wire-free, with no need for perimeter wires or a separate RTK base station. MAMMOTION's iNavi NetRTK Service is included globally for the product's lifetime.

Agile Yet Turf-Friendly Movement Made Possible

MAMMOTION has combined independent front-wheel steering and four-wheel torque vectoring to help the mower handle slopes and uneven ground with greater confidence. By sending power to the wheels with the most grip, it can tackle slopes of up to 80% (38.6°) while keeping its mowing lines consistent.

What matters more to users is its smarter approach to turning. With the surround vision system in place, bidirectional driving helps make those turns less of a spectacle. LUBA 4 AWD can switch between mowing passes without making the harsh in-place U-turns that can challenge both robotic mowers and the turf beneath them. The result is a cleaner path, less unnecessary turning, greater mobility in tight spaces, and more time spent actually mowing.

New Accessory for Precision Edge Care

The LUBA 4 AWD also takes aim at the part of the lawn that robot mowers have traditionally left behind: the edges. Along walls, fences, garden beds and even tricky drop-offs, an optional edge-trimming accessory brings a string trimmer into the same autonomous workflow. A retractable arm lowers the trimming line when needed and folds it away during regular mowing, with three height settings to adjust the trimming position.

The idea is pretty simple. Let the mower handle the edges without sending the homeowner back out with a trimmer. MAMMOTION says the system can reach difficult boundary areas, including lawn edges next to drop-offs, for what it describes as zero-distance edge trimming. In other words, LUBA 4 AWD isn't just trying to mow right up to the boundary. It is designed to actually finish it.

Scaled Cutting With Both Hardware and Software Updates

Designed for larger lawns, LUBA 4 AWD covers more ground each pass, stops less often, and gets back to work faster. A detachable high-capacity battery and 210W fast charging are designed to keep downtime between mowing sessions to a minimum.

The dual cutting discs on the LUBA 4 AWD 3000F and 6000F have been widened to 17.3 inches (440mm), 1.6 inches wider than those on the previous LUBA AWD series, while the 12000F further steps up to three discs and a 20.9 in (530mm) cutting width.

MAMMOTION also brings its previously separate high-cut and standard-cut configurations together, giving the mower a wider 1 - 3.9 inches cutting-height range (1 - 3.3 in for the LUBA 4 AWD 12000F). Floating cutting decks with pivoting blades can follow dips and bumps in the lawn, helping keep the cut more consistent across rough or uneven ground.

Taken together, these upgrades make LUBA 4 AWD a lineup aimed at large and complex lawns without making the owner spend more time managing the mower.

According to MAMMOTION, the new LUBA 4 AWD will be available in three models for different lawn sizes: LUBA 4 AWD 3000F covers up to 0.75 acres, the 6000F up to 1.5 acres, and the 12000F up to 3 acres. Pricing and availability details are expected in Q4.
