I recently returned from a trip to Mexico City, and it was incredible. I only have one regret: my packing decisions. I realized my mistake as soon as I pulled a silk shirt out of my suitcase, only to find a wrinkled shell of the shirt that first went in.
I don't know if it's a consequence of getting older, but when I was a teenager, I was truly wrinkle-blind. My mom would constantly tell me to take off what I was wearing so she could iron it, and I would roll my eyes and say, "No, it's fine." But now, at the wisened age of 24, I can no longer ignore a wrinkled piece of clothing.
I learned about the wrinkle-free clothing trend, and it piqued my interest. I travel frequently, and when I'm at home, I'm happy to whip out a steamer and put some muscle into wrinkle release, but when I'm traveling, that's a whole different story. Call me lazy, but I'd rather not waste precious vacation time ironing or steaming my outfit.
Shopping on a budget means I have to choose wisely, so I turned to Amazon to find affordable, wrinkle-free clothing that's easy to pack. After putting these clothes through the wringer, here are my thoughts.
1. Amazon Essentials Women's Long Sleeve Classic Wrap Dress
Right out of the package, I was excited about this dress. It immediately reminded me of the Danskin dance wrap dresses from the '70s and '80s. Major Saturday Night Fever vibes (which, despite what the soundtrack would have you think, is a dark movie).
A versatile wrap dress to wear from the office to your night out.
What I liked
The front draping gives this $15 wrap dress a more polished look than its simple silhouette suggests.
I was especially happy with the front draping, which effortlessly adds a layer of elegance to an otherwise simple piece. I found this dress versatile. Its timeless silhouette and design would fit in at a work event or on a night out—and that's a lot of bang for your buck, especially since it's just $15.
Despite its polyester content, the dress came out of the package wrinkle-free with a sturdy, supportive feel.
I can say with resounding confidence that this piece is wrinkle-free. The fiber content is 95% polyester and 5% elastane, which tracks; many wrinkle-free pieces contain polyester, since it tends to hold its shape. Still, these are two fibers that can be iffy to buy blind, and I was worried the dress would show up with the coarse, staticky feel that's typical of polyester pieces. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to find the fabric is reminiscent of the leotards I wore in dance classes growing up: sturdy and supportive.
It's also described as midweight, which I'd say is accurate. You won't want to wear this one on a tropical summer vacation, but it's a great piece to pack for holiday travel. I'd recommend pairing it with fleece tights and booties for a refined look at any upcoming events.
2. Prettywear Long Sleeve Henley Shirt
This piece is a standard henley, but I will say, it's a great basic to have in your arsenal.
A versatile closet staple, ideal for layering or wearing on its own.
What I liked
A soft, lightweight blend with four-way stretch makes this henley an easy layering basic.
The material is lightweight and soft, with four-way stretch that I found comfortable. The fiber content is 38% viscose, 28.5% cotton, 28.5% acrylic, and 5% spandex. While it's not 100% cotton, I felt more confident ordering it knowing a good chunk of the fabric comes from natural fibers. It's an easy layering piece but also works well on its own. I mean, it's a good henley, and anyone reading a fashion review will appreciate its value.
The henley held up through a night in a tote bag, a full day of wear, and a trip through the wash.
This is another piece that passes the wrinkle test with flying colors. I left the shirt stuffed at the bottom of a tote bag overnight, and when I pulled it out the next morning, it was in the same condition I'd left it. I also wore it from daytime errands to a movie at night, and when I took it off at the end of a long day, it was still completely wrinkle-free. It even passed a test I hadn't planned: After a run through the washer and dryer, I was surprised by how well it held up when I folded it at the laundromat. I'd pack it for just about anything, from an autumnal outing paired with a cute skirt to a cozy camping trip (I use that term loosely, but you get the idea).
3. Prettygarden Lounge Matching Set
I'm always hesitant to order a matching set, because it's a 50/50 gamble: A set can look like an instantly coordinated, stylish outfit, or like you wore your pajamas out for the day.
A cozy matching set, perfect for your next travel day.
What I liked
Side slits, a high-low hem, and cargo pockets help this set read as an outfit rather than pajamas.
This one lands somewhere between those two worlds. It comes in multiple colorways and has thoughtful design touches that help it escape the pajama trap, like the side slits and high-low hem on the top, plus the cargo pockets on the pants.
The fiber content is 67% viscose, 28% polyester, and 5% elastane. There are no fully natural fibers, but because it's made primarily of viscose, it avoids the non-breathable, plasticky texture that plagues so many polyester pieces.
After a 12-hour day, the set hadn't stretched out or picked up wrinkles.
This set is a wrinkle-free win. I wore it for a full 12-hour day, and it held its own. It didn't stretch out, as so many loungey pieces do, nor did it start to wrinkle after a day of work, grocery shopping, and a post-work nap.
What I didn't like
The fabric (which, I'll admit, is comfortable) has a look that verges on nightwear territory. As I mentioned, it has some pajama-like qualities, so I'm not sure I'll add it to my everyday outfit rotation, but it would be a great set to throw on for a flight or a lazy day.
4. Taqcux Women's Wide Leg Pants Cotton Baggy Casual Palazzo Sweatpants
These pants are a major step up from the ratty, overworn sweats you throw on for laundry day. They have a great wide-leg, palazzo-style silhouette, stylish supersized pockets, and interesting seam stitching.
Stylish sweatpants that elevate a lazy-day outfit.
What I liked
Roomy pockets and a wide-leg cut make these sweatpants feel dressier than the usual laundry-day pair.
The fiber content is 81% cotton and 19% polyester, which makes them soft and comfortable. I wore them with a simple tank and cropped zip-up, and despite how cozy the fit was, I felt more stylish than I typically would wearing sweats. I'm going to use these as an easy way to elevate an otherwise slouchy outfit!
What I didn't like
These pants arrived vacuum-sealed and creased, so they're not the pick for days in a suitcase.
OK, after that rave review, here comes the downside: These aren't wrinkle-free. I realized it right out of the package. They came vacuum-sealed and even had a tag with instructions for releasing the wrinkles. They're described as travel-friendly, which I'd say is fair given their design and comfort level. But if you're looking for pants that can survive days in your suitcase, these aren't your best bet.
Should you shop Amazon's wrinkle-free options?
If you're a frequent flyer, it's worth a look
After testing these wrinkle-free options, I'd order more from Amazon. If you travel frequently, these pieces are great options for staying comfortable and stylish on the go.
That said, I'd encourage you to check the fiber content before buying anything there. Wrinkle-free clothing often leans on synthetic fibers because they're inexpensive to source and naturally resist creasing, but those pieces can end up looking cheap and feeling less than comfortable. Luckily, I avoided that downside with the pieces I ordered, though that's largely because I searched far and wide on Amazon for pieces with promising fiber content.
