Pantone named Mocha Mousse its 2025 Color of the Year, but brown hasn't gone anywhere. Anne Hathaway, Selena Gomez, and Kate Hudson are still wearing it well into 2026, and it's been a fall staple for decades, from '70s suede jackets to '90s brown lip liner.
Whether you call it espresso, chocolate, mahogany, or cinnamon, it's easy to find on Amazon. I shopped the color trend and picked up five affordable pieces for a total of $200 to help me ease into Florida's version of fall. Was it worth the spend? Let's see. …
1. Sampeel women's mock-neck top
Short-sleeve sweaters and mock necks are great fall pieces. They look chic under jackets and offer some warmth on their own, with more visual intrigue than a boatneck or standard shirt. This one from Sampeel is a blend of viscose, nylon, and polyester, making it soft and durable. It comes in a few shades of brown, including Coffee, Striped Brown Apricot, and simply Brown, which I ordered.
This soft, substantial mock neck isn't see-through and layers easily under jackets. Just know the color runs warmer than pictured.
What I liked
The Sampeel mock neck top has a soft, airy feel and a true-to-size fit.
Even though the shirt was lighter than pictured, the fabric has a good weight to it that makes it perfect for fall. It isn't see-through, even with a dark bra underneath. Aside from a few wrinkles, it was ready to wear straight out of the package. I also found it true to size, soft, and airy.
What I didn't like
In person, the Sampeel top leaned warmer and more rust-toned than its online photos suggested.
The color in person was noticeably different from the product photo. It's much warmer, nearly rust-brown in real life, compared to the true chocolate brown shown online. The sleeves are also shorter and much tighter than the loose, flowy fit pictured.
2. Milumia asymmetrical halterneck lace top
Even though temperatures are dropping, cute going-out tops are a must. I loved the brown color, the lace detailing, and how the asymmetrical hem peeks out even under a zipped jacket. Reviews warned that the fabric has little to no stretch, which I can confirm, so I sized up from my usual small to a medium.
This lace halter looks just like its product photo, and the asymmetrical hem peeks out from under a zipped jacket. The fabric has little stretch, so size up.
What I liked
The Milumia halter top's lace detailing and chocolate brown shade matched its product photos closely.
This halter top looked exactly like the product photo when it arrived. The color and fit matched the image, and it's a classic chocolate brown. The button fasteners at the back of the neck have elastic, so I could fasten them easily on my own, even with long nails.
What I didn't like
With no stretch in the fabric, sizing up still left some gapping at the sides of the Milumia top.
As any girl with bigger girls knows, halters can be hit-or-miss. I sized up to account for the lack of stretch, but that left some gapping at the sides that showed my strapless bra. I'll probably wear it with tape or pasties, so I don't feel too exposed or have serious side-boob going on.
3. Project Cloud genuine leather clogs
These clogs are a great Birkenstock dupe that come in tons of colors, including several fall-ready browns, in both leather and suede. I picked up the Chocolate Brown Suede in a 6.5 after reviews recommended sizing up at least a half size. And then there's the price, which is a whopping $125 less than Birkenstock's Boston-style suede clogs in mocha, priced at $169.95.
These suede clogs have a roomy toe box and a cushioned heel for a fraction of the Birkenstock price. Order a half size up.
What I liked
Suede uppers, pre-distressed buckles, and a roomy toe box make the Project Cloud clogs an easy everyday shoe.
These shoes have a wide toe box that kept them extremely comfortable, whether I was taking a long walk around the neighborhood or doing chores around the house. They're also the perfect chocolate brown, and the buckles come pre-distressed, so you don't have to worry as much about visible wear and tear. The suede upper is soft, and there's a cushion on the inner heel for extra padding with every step.
What I didn't like
Sizing up at least a half size is a must with these clogs, and the foam sole offers little grip.
This was another product where reviews said to size up, and I'm glad I listened. I'm normally a US 6, and some 6s even run large on me, but the 6.5 fit perfectly. The foam sole also offers little traction.
4. Reoria women's long-sleeve maxi dress
A long-sleeve dress is a must-have for special occasions once the weather cools. Though the color was different from what was pictured online, this dress is made of a lightweight mesh that's both breathable and supportive. The bodice is double lined, and the sleeves are unlined mesh.
This double-lined mesh maxi has flattering ruching and a mid-calf length made for fall occasions. Expect a warmer brown than pictured.
What I liked
Ruching and a mesh overlay give the REORIA maxi dress a flattering, structured look.
This dress is absolutely gorgeous. I'm about 5'4", and the length was nearly perfect, hitting right around mid-calf. It's also supportive and gave me a sculpted look without feeling suffocating. The ruching adds detail and enhances the illusion of curves and a smaller waist.
What I didn't like
The Reoria dress ran warmer in undertone than its online photos, which matters for anyone building a cool-toned outfit.
Like the Sampeel top, this dress looked noticeably different in person than in the product photo. I have cool undertones, so I try to stick to cooler browns, but this one has a warm-to-neutral undertone. Despite that, I love the dress and plan to find an occasion to wear it.
5. Pretty Garden women's faux leather motorcycle jacket
A good leather or faux leather jacket is a staple in any season, especially fall, when it complements an outfit as much as it keeps you warm. This one from Pretty Garden has a polyurethane-and-cotton-blend exterior. The color is a true dark chocolate brown, and it closes with both a zipper and snaps to keep the chill at bay. I ordered my usual small, but I probably should've sized up for a slouchier, oversized fit, which might have solved my issue with the sleeves.
This dark chocolate faux leather jacket has an elastic hem and snaps over the zipper for easy layering. Size up if you want room in the sleeves.
What I liked
An elastic hem on the Pretty Garden jacket makes zipping up over a bulky sweater easier.
There's nothing more frustrating than getting a sweater caught in a jacket when you're trying to zip it up, right? This jacket's elastic hem gives extra wiggle room when zipping, which is ideal since layering is a major part of fall fashion. Snaps over the zipper also add an extra layer of protection from the cold.
What I didn't like
Sleeves that ride up and shallow front pockets were the Pretty Garden jacket's biggest flaws.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when jacket sleeves ride up as I raise my arms or use my hands, which unfortunately happened big time with this one. I also wasn't crazy about the envelope-style front pockets, which stick out awkwardly when unsnapped and don't hold much.
Should you shop the chocolate-brown trend on Amazon?
Yes, but pay attention to reviews
Chocolate brown pieces from Amazon can vary in undertone, so checking reviews before ordering pays off.
Shopping for almost anything online requires some due diligence. I always read reviews before I buy, which is how I knew to size up in the clogs and the lace halter top before making my purchase. Even though nearly every piece I bought was labeled some variation of "chocolate" or "coffee" brown, undertones differed noticeably, which is worth paying attention to if you plan to wear multiple brown pieces together. Thankfully, Amazon offers easy returns, but if you're like me and tend to order at the last minute, reading reviews can help you get the right size and confirm whether the color matches the photo.
I spent $200, and added five chocolate brown clothing items to my wardrobe, which will keep me looking stylish through the season and into 2027. Given how far these Amazon brands allow you to stretch a dollar, I'm very happy with the outcome.
