Samsung just announced Smart TV SDK 5.0, a developer kit that allows users to shut off a light or flip on the AC through any Samsung Smart TV—no need to leave the couch. The downloadable kit serves app developers with wider device compatibility than previous iterations.

The new release is part of Samsung's effort to diversify and grow its app offerings. SKD 5.0 will use a Web UI Framework, which enables developers to use HTML 5 standards, and PNaCL technology for improved security and portability.
