Impressive temperature control with a sleek, stainless exterior. A few minor quibbles don't keep this from being a great mid-range fridge.

An easy-clean stainless-style exterior, sliding shelves and user-friendly controls are impressive on a $1000 fridge. The average temperature performance, however, was less than welcome.

Behind the KitchenAid KSRV22FVSS' dated exterior is a powerful freezing machine that keeps food consistently cold. Its relatively compact dimensions mean it may fit into the most cozy of kitchens, but its $1400-plus pricetag may not fit your budget.

LG set the standard for top-freezer, entry-level stainless fridges with this 22.0 cubic foot model. It has superb temperature performance and a great fit and finish, though it is a bit of an energy hog.

The Maytag M0RXEMMWB is an average top-freezer with a modern design, an internal icemaker and good energy efficiency. You might have to crank up the temperature control, but what this Maytag lacks in temperature accuracy, it makes up for in consistency.

This 17.6 fridge is smaller than most, and features a unique exterior finish known as Green Tea. It would work best in a stylish, small kitchen and lives up to its high design with good temperature and energy performance. The inside, however, feels cheap and is not easily customizable.

Though better fridges can be found in the same price range, this 19 cubic foot Amana does a decent job for the price. We're not fans of the cheap-feeling interior, but temperature performance is adequate, as is energy use.
