When is Black Friday 2025?

Black Friday 2025 is set for Friday, November 28. Each year, the shopping event is held on the day immediately following Thanksgiving.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the biggest sales event of the year. The annual shopping holiday traditionally takes place at the end of November, following Thanksgiving. This year, as has been the case in recent years, retailers are expected to offer some of the year's best online sales and deals.

According to History.com, Black Friday originated in 1869 when the price of gold plummeted dramatically, causing Wall Street financiers to lose millions. The day came to be known as "Black Friday." Over time, the day has evolved into a term for retailers to help ensure they would be able to finish the year "in the black" with strong profits.

While the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas has long signified shopping and heavy spending since the Great Depression, the recent rise of online shopping has hinted at the idea that Black Friday may eventually evolve into “Black November.”

What day is Black Friday?

As its name suggests, Black Friday always occurs on the Friday immediately after Thanksgiving. With Thanksgiving set for Thursday, November 27 in 2025, Black Friday will kick off at midnight on Friday, November 28.

When do Black Friday 2025 sales start?

Black Friday deals seem to start earlier and earlier every year. Amazon Prime Day, which occurred in July, is arguably the biggest competing event with Black Friday, given its amazing discounts. The bulk of the 2025 Black Friday sales is expected to be live in early November, with the best deals dropping as soon as Thanksgiving ends.

When does Black Friday start at Walmart?

Walmart typically starts its Black Friday sale in early November. In years past, the retail giant has had several shopping events leading up to Black Friday proper, with new deals available to shop one to three weeks ahead of the biggest shopping day of the year.

In 2024, Walmart began offering Black Friday deals as early as Monday, November 11. Walmart+ shoppers almost always get first dibs on the holiday deals, and this year they’ll gain access on Thursday, November 13, so signing up for a shopping membership can be especially worthwhile come Black Friday 2025.

Does Amazon have Black Friday sales?

Yes! Amazon's Black Friday sales usually kick off in mid-November. In 2024, Amazon started offering Black Friday deals on Thursday, November 21 and continued its Cyber Monday discounts through November. Amazon is known for offering incredible deals every day, so if you can't wait until Black Friday 2025, you can find the best current Amazon deals on everything from kitchen appliances and smart tech to phone accessories and beauty products.

What stores will have Black Friday sales this year?

Virtually every store—from big-box retailers to smaller, niche merchants—will have Black Friday sales.

Last year, in addition to Amazon and Walmart, some of the best Black Friday deals we saw were at Best Buy, Lowe's, Target, Nordstrom, and Samsung.

Are Black Friday deals better than Cyber Monday deals?

We often see the best prices of the year during both Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Since the most-wanted products typically sell out quickly, we recommend that shoppers buy their must-have items as they see them.
