Samsung Announces New Entry-Level HD Camcorder: The HMX-Q10

Samsung added an affordable HD model to its camcorder lineup in 2011 with the announcement of the HMX-Q10. The HMX-Q10 records Full HD video and uses Samsung's new Switch Grip technology that is designed to improve handling and user interface.
The HMX-Q10 is a compact camcorder with a 10x optical zoom lens and overall dimensions of 33 x 53 x 119mm. The Switch Grip technology enables a sensor inside the camcorder to automatically recognize the angle at which you are shooting and will adjust the 2.7-inch LCD accordingly. Samsung claims this will help when shooting at odd angles, and it will allow to grip the HMX-Q10 comfortably with either the left or right hand. The LCD also uses touchscreen technology.
The camcorder includes a 1/4.1-inch CMOS sensor with an effective pixel count of 2.07 megapixels. Despite its cheap retail price of just under $300, the HMX-Q10 does include optical image stabilization (OIS Duo). The camcorder can also capture 4.9-megapixel still images.
In addition to Full HD recording (1920 x 1080), the HMX-Q10 also has a 720/60p mode and a standard definition recording option. Samsung emphasizes the compact design of the model, which you can see with its slender, barrel-like design in the photos above. The camcorder has a DC-input and it can also charge via USB . The Q10 also includes HDMI and Composite video output ports. The Q10 does not contain any internal memory, but does include an SD/SDHC memory card slot for storing video and photo content.
The Samsung HMX-Q10 will be available in February 2011 with an expected retail price of $299.
