June 21, 2007 – HP today announced its advanced point-and-shoot, the

Photosmart R937. The new 8-megapixel camera carries a 3.6-inch touch screen display, tagged the "largest touch screen LCD display of any compact digital camera in the industry," in a company press release today. The HP Photosmart R937 will have a retail price of $299.99 and will be available in North America in August.

In recent years, other manufacturers have announced touch screen functions on point-and-shoots cameras, including those on Sony’s T-series and N-series, Pentax’s T-series, BenQ’s T-series, and the Kodak EasyShare One. The R937's 3.6-inch touch screen LCD trumps the 3-inch monitors of other cameras on the market.

The Photosmart R937 is fitted with a Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens and possesses HP’s anti-shake mode and adaptive lighting system. The R937, like many other Photosmart cameras, includes a variety of built-in features so that users can bypass computer editing, including in-camera pet red-eye fix, blemish removal, and panoramic stitch. The point-and-shoot also has in-camera red-eye removal (for humans) and a slimming function that promises to make subjects look 10 pounds lighter, features carried over from its predecessor model, the R927.

The HP R937 also allows users to prepare images before going to print or sharing. The camera touts an image tagging feature, now compatible with Windows Vista. In addition, users can store e-mail addresses to prepare the photos for sharing.

"The HP Photosmart R937 Digital Camera takes photos to the next level with a large, 3.6-inch interactive touch screen and superior 8-megapixel resolution," stated the release. "Ideal for those on the go – this stylish, remarkably thin camera easily slips into a pocket or purse."
