September 22, 2006 – Yesterday, Pentax Corp. announced brief information on the new medium format Pentax 645 Digital and three new lenses to be on exhibit at Photokina. All the model names are tentative and the lenses are scheduled for marketing in 2007, according to yesterday’s press release.

The Pentax 645 Digital is an 18 megapixel medium format SLR with a 645AF mount for interchangeable lenses. Pentax states the product will eventually be upgraded to 30 megapixel, according to the website. Marketing for the 645 Digital has not yet been announced.

Pentax also announced three new lenses designed for the Pentax K and ist-D DSLRs, fitted with KAF2 mounts. The wide angle zoom smc Pentax-DA16-50mm f/2.8 ED AL[IF] and the telephoto zoom lens smc Pentax-DA**50-135mm f/2.8 ED [IF] will be marketed in March 2007. The super telephoto zoom lens smc Pentax-DA**60-250 mm f/4ED [IF] will be marketed sometime next year.
