Image Quality

Section 2 Text

Both cameras are capable of taking great shots, but the FZ150 has the edge. It earned some of the best noise scores we’ve ever measured in a small-sensor camera. Sharpness was a little bit low, but looking at shots from the P510 and FZ150 side by side, the FZ150’s shots look smoother and more natural.

Winner: Panasonic FZ150

Design & User Experience

Section 3 Text

The Nikon P510 has a huge advantage in terms of focal range—42x to the FZ150’s 24x, about 75 percent more reach. But the FZ150 has a more solid build, a fully articulating screen, a better electronic viewfinder, and much more hands-on control (including RAW capture). This is a personal call.

Winner: Tie; Nikon for reach, Panasonic for control

Conclusion

Section 4 Text

We stand by our numbers; the Panasonic FZ150 is a better camera. But at this point, it’s almost like a different class of superzoom. The zoom isn’t as ambitious, but it otherwise holds more enthusiast appeal (and it costs about $70 more). If you’re a more casual shooter, or the ridiculous zoom range really is that important, then the Nikon P510 is a worthy purchase.
