November 16, 2005 - Adobe has released a Camera RAW plug-in, still in the Beta stage but available for download, on its homepage. It is meant to replace the plug-in from Photoshop Elements 3.0 and 4.0 and Photoshop CS2. The update offers direct writing of IPTC-format data to PSD, TIFF and JPEG files; an improved Bayer demosaicing algorithm; quicker screen redrawing; improved DNG decoding for some camera models; and the addition of some warning dialogs.

The update also supports nine new cameras, added to the old list of 105. The new models supported are: Sony’s DSC-R1; Olympus’ E-500, SP-310, SP-350, and SP-500UZ; Canon’s EOS-5D and EOS-1D Mark II n; and Pentax’s **ist DL and **ist DS2.

The plug-in can be found here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3155
