April 20, 2005* — Canon released a version 2.0.0 firmware update for the Canon EOS 20D yesterday, adding support for the wireless file transmitter WFT-E1. This minor update also encompasses previous updates, which have fixed shutter release problems, added languages, and made other improvements.

The 20D’s first firmware update fixed a problem with horizontal noise appearing in images taken at high ISO settings while using the built-in flash. That version also added Russian, Korean, and traditional Chinese to the list of menu languages, bringing it to a total of 15. The second version fixed the problem of the shutter release not working, improved reliability with CompactFlash cards, and improved the firmware update program itself. Version 2.0.0 will encompass all of these improvements and takes about 2 minutes to download from Canon’s web site.
