June 22, 2007 – This week, Canon U.S.A., in conjunction with the American Park Network, announced the introduction of free photography workshops. The workshops, led by photographers including Rob and Ann Simpson, Adam Jones, and Lewis Kemper, will be held throughout the summer at Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Parks.
Canon also announced the return of the Canon Photography in the Parks Photo Contest, giving photographers the opportunity to win prizes and have their work showcased. The contest will run from June 1 to Sept. 29, and winners from the two categories, landscape and wildlife, will win a trip to a park of their choice and a full suite of Canon equipment. To enter, photographers can upload their photos to the Canon Digital Learning Center.
"Photography affords an entirely new perspective of the natural world that surrounds us every day, both in our national parks, and in our own backyards," said Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager of the Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A., in a press release. "As a global organization, Canon understands its responsibility for the impact it makes on society and the environment. Through our involvement in the parks, we hope to strengthen Canon’s commitment to conservation."
The workshops will give photographers an opportunity to learn about outdoor photography from 'Canon Explorer of Light' photographers. Participants will be able to borrow high-end equipment from Canon as they receive hands-on training. Visitors will receive prints and a CD of their photos, and evening "Q&A" sessions will also be held.
"It’s rare that we get the chance to share our passion for photography with people that are so eager to learn," said Adam Jones, professional photographer and Canon Explorer of Light, in a press release. "As far as wildlife and landscape photography goes, these three parks are among the best locations the Earth has to offer. I look forward to teaching the tips and tricks I’ve used that will help to create photographs that can compete in the Canon in the Parks Photo Contest."
The workshops are not open to professional photographers. Dates, times and locations for the workshops are listed below.
