The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens which is an upgrade to the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II has been reviewed by the website The-Digital-Picture. The most important update on the new lens is Image Stabilization, which doesn’t disappoint and is quite effective according to the website.

According to the review, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens new circular aperture provides a decent Out of Focus blur and the auto focus system was found to be fast and low on noise. However the website is quick to point out that the lens doesn’t do too well in low-light situation and vignetting is noticeable in certain cases.

In the end they  conclude "For the money, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens performs very well optically. From 18mm through 35mm or so, center sharpness is reasonable wide open and reaches its optimal sharpness at f/5.6"
