November 11, 2004 — The Casio Exilim Pro EX-Z50 got a makeover for the holiday season. The special edition camera comes in a "Blue Ice" color in Europe starting at the end of November. The 5-megapixel Z50 has a 3x optical zoom lens, 2-inch color LCD screen, and 23 scene modes.
The Casio camera starts up in 1.6 seconds to take its first shot and has a shutter lag time of .01, unlike many other compact cameras that take several seconds to snap a shot. The Z50 has some interesting features: a personalized alarm, an organizational feature that lets users mark favorites, and world timing.
The popular point-and-shoot has good basic features too: a movie mode, plenty of white balance options, and automatic and manual controls. The Casio packs in 9.3MB of internal memory and a fashionable design to make this camera appealing to the entry-level market. In mid-October, Casio released the Z50 in a special edition "Red Star" color. With this announcement, that brings the color choices to three: red, silver, and now, blue.
