Andy Westlake from Dpreview recently reviewed the Tamron SP AF 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD Macro Lens. The lens is affordable and yet quite capable to produce high quality images. Technically the lens is quite impressive too and hence image and macro quality don’t disappoint. However the autofocus motor was found to be slow and noisy and it suffers from a clunky manual focus switchover mechanism.

Excerpt from the review:
"So ultimately what we have here is a flawed gem, a lens which fully capable of delivering excellent images, but also frustratingly capable of missing focus on that once-in-a-lifetime shot, either through mis-focus or simply being too slow. And this is a real pity, because the optical quality of this lens is genuinely superb."
