June 29, 2007 – DxO Labs this week released an update to its photo editing program Optics Pro. Version 4.5 adds a plug-in feature for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, making DxO the first company to release a third-party plug-in for the Adobe photo management program, according to a June 27th company press release.

The software plug-in allows users to export images from Lightroom to DxO Optics Pro. Users can then transfer edited files from Optics Pro and save them back to the Lightroom application with the attached metadata intact, integrating the two programs.

"DxO Optics Pro plug-in for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a pioneering effort making DxO Optics Pro v.4.5 the first major photographic software application to start building a common workflow with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom," stated the company’s press materials this week. "As with all pioneering efforts they are just at the beginning of this process. And there are still things that will have to be worked on until they can reach a fully integrated experience."

The integration process was met with some bumps in the road. Adobe coincidentally released an updated version of Lightroom on the same day DxO Labs announced Optics Pro 4.5. DxO responded by re-releasing an update to its update on Thursday.

"Since [Wednesday’s] announcement of DxO Optics Pro v4.5, DxO Labs has updated their online documentation to reflect some of the changes that Lightroom v1.1 introduces and they indicate where there are potential gaps in the workflow introduced by Adobe Photoshop Lightroom v1.1," stated a June 28th company press release.

DxO’s plug-in for Lightroom follows another recent push for integration with popular online photo sharing site Flickr. Flickr Export plug-in, now available, automatically logs in users, tags photos, and uploads DxO Optics Pro processed images to Flickr.

The upgrade to DxO Optics Pro v4.5 is free for existing users of version 4.0 and higher. Full versions for DxO Optio Pro v4.5 retails for $79 for the Starter edition, $169 for the Standard edition, and $299 for the Elite version. The program is Windows and Mac compatible.
