Jan. 24, 2008 – Fujifilm today announced a new addition to its F-series line of digital cameras: the FinePix F100*fd*. The point-and-shoot features an updated, faster face detection system that can recognize profiles, dual image stabilization, and IrSimple wireless transfer technology. The FinePix F100*fd *will retail for $379.95 when it ships in March.
The 12-megapixel camera features Fujifilm’s 8th-generation Super CCD, a 5x optical zoom lens, and a 2.7-inch, 230,000-pixel LCD. It boosts the zoom from 3x, found on the FinePix F50*fd*, to 5x.
Fujifilm brings technology from its FinePix S5 Pro camera to the F100fd, providing a wider dynamic range due to advances in its Super CCD HR VIII and RP (Real Photo ) Processor III. This aims to enhance the highlights and shadows of images.
A faster face detection with automatic red-eye removal can recognize up to 10 faces in as little as .036 seconds, according to Fujifilm, and can detect faces looking up, down, left, or right, in a full 360 degrees.
Dual image stabilization combines mechanical image stabilization with digital image stabilization, boosting the ISO sensitivities to lessen blur in images. ISO settings can reach as high as ISO 3200 at full resolution and ISO 12800 at a reduced resolution.
The F100*fd*’s Burst mode can fire off three frames at 1.7 frames per second (fps) and 12 frams at 5 fps at 3 megapixels. High-speed playback allows for post-capture display at full resolution at 10 fps.
The F100*fd *has 16 Scene modes, including an Underwater Scene mode which requires the purchase of a separate underwater housing. A Portrait Enhancer mode uses face detection to identify faces, then minimize lines and blemishes.
Dual Shot mode on the F100fd takes two photos – one with flash, and one without flsh – allowing the user to choose between the two.
In addition, IrSimple technology allows for the wireless transfer of images to other IrSimple-enabled devices, including computers, printers, and other cameras. It features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and is compatible with xD, SD, and SDHC media.
