*January 25, 2006 – *Jupitermedia, a leading provider of original information, images and business research, has announced the purchase of a 49.7% equity share in HAAP Media Limited. HAAP Media, the Hungarian-based company, owns Stockxpert.com and Stock.xchng (www.sxc.hu), two major players in the stock photography community.
According to Lisa DiGiacomo, Jupitermedia’s Marketing and Public Relations Associate,
Stock.exchng which is linked to stockxpert.com can boast "over 25 million page views monthly and over 500,000 registered users." Stock.exchng bills itself as a micro payment site and could be considered the eBay of indie stock photography websites, in that a user can buy or sell images through the site for reasonable price points usually between $1 and $10. All submitted images are tagged with keywords, making them easily accessible through the sites database.
This announcement follows Jupitermedia’s Monday launch of the Photographic Youth Music Culture Archive collection on Jupiterimages.com, another stock photography website owned by Jupitermedia. According to Jupiterimages, the PYMCA collection incorporates "rights-managed commercial and editorial images that document youth and subcultures, street fashions, movements and lifestyles from all over the world." The collection can be found at www.jupiterimages.com/pymca.
Both statements confirm Jupitermedia’s large push into the realm of royalty free and rights managed stock photography, offering both amateur and professional photographers a forum to post and sell their images.
