New Samsung NX1100 Does Little to Improve on NX1000

It doesn't appear to add anything new, so why does this camera even exist?

Today's announcement that the Samsung NX1100 (MSRP $699.00 with 20-50mm kit lens) is up for pre-order at B&H Photo came as a surprise in the sense that very few in the press were alerted ahead of time, but last week's leak of the camera's manual was a pretty big tip-off that it was coming down the pike.

The latest entry in the mirrorless NX line appears all but identical to the previous iteration, the NX1000. Included are the same 20.3-megapixel (effective) APS-C CMOS sensor, the same 100-12800 ISO range, the same 8 fps continuous shooting capability, the same 3-inch 921k-dot rear LCD, the same baked-in WiFi, and the same external styling. The now-familiar 20-50mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens is also included with the NX1100—at the moment, there's no option to order a body-only version.

As with the previous model, the NX1100 is capable of shooting 1080/30p HD video. It also includes an external mic jack and full manual exposure controls when shooting video. There's a full hot shoe that can be used to mount a mic, but it's more likely to host the included SEF-8A flash unit. Also in the accessory grab-bag is a copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom—something any photographer should be happy to have.

There's no word on a release date, but we've reached out to Samsung for official word and we'll let you know the moment we hear anything. In the meantime, the NX1100 can be pre-ordered in either white or black. For more information, check out the full press release at PRWeb.
