May 14, 2007* – Nikon last week announced its net income nearly doubled this year, with strong sales in its digital camera division. Nikon reported a net income of 54.82 billion yen ($455.4 million USD), up 89.4 percent from 28.94 billion yen ($240.4 million) year-over-year.

Nikon, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, nearly doubled its net profit. Nikon’s imaging department performed particularly well, with sales rising over 51 percent.

The manufacturer recently announced its New Vision goals, with the slogan "Our Aspirations – Meeting needs. Exceeding expectations."

"Taking major changes of social and business environment into consideration, new vision is formulated based on Nikon’s identity, continuous study of light, and our unwavering corporate philosophy…," explained a May 10th company press release.

The manufacturer sited "trustworthiness and creativity" to be the core of the mission statement with an explanation of its logo. The yellow background on the Nikon logo represents passion, while the black Nikon text represents high quality, according to the release.

Nikon predicts that net income will rise nearly 12 percent to 48.0 billion yen in the next fiscal year.
