Panasonic Announces New High-End Bridge Camera, the FZ1000

Hold onto your pants, point-and-shoots: Panasonic is hot on Sony's heels. With a brand spankin' new bridge camera, the Japanese photo giant is taking on the RX10 with its own high-end bridge camera: the FZ1000.
We were lucky enough to get our hands on a production unit of the FZ1000 about a week ago. We've been able to put it through our entire suite of lab tests and have a full review for you right here.
Under the hood, this consumer-grade bridge camera sports a 1-inch, 20.1-megapixel sensor behind a huge 25-400mm, f/2.8-4 Leica-branded lens. However, it's what the camera does with this impressively-specced hardware that's newsworthy. Like Panasonic's GH4, the FZ1000 can shoot 4K video. This is huge, because the FZ1000 is the first point and shoot to do so.
Not a one-trick pony, the FZ1000 comes with a slew of features to keep novice and pro shooters happy. In-camera RAW processing, sharing over WiFi (or NFC), 12fps burst speed, and a 2.359 million dot electronic viewfinder are only a few of the features Panasonic included. Pros will appreciate the focus-peaking offered by the FZ1000, while novices will appreciate the articulating screen that allows shooting in a huge range of difficult-to-reach angles.
Though final figures have not been set, the camera is going to cost approximately $899.99, and will be available somewhere in between the end of June and early July.
