September 13, 2006 – With the announcement of the Pentax K10D consumer DSLR today, Pentax Imaging Co. launched a new medium telephoto lens, the DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited lens. The 70mm lens will retail at $600 when it becomes available next month.

The Pentax 70mm lens is equivalent to 107mm in traditional 35mm format. The "ultra-thin pancake design" lens is only 1.02 inches thick and weighs a mere 4.6 ounces, stated today’s Pentax press release. The new lens has 6 elements in 5 groups and has a KAF mount, specific to Pentax bodies.

Intended for "casual, day-to-day snapshot photography," according to the release, the large aperture medium telephoto lens is geared for portraiture and landscape photography.

Like the new K10D camera body, the Pentax 70mm lens has the Special Protect (SP) coating to resist weather, dust, grease, fingerprints, and make-up, according to the release.
