June 28, 2007 – Along with the launch of the updated K100D Super DSLR, Pentax yesterday introduced the AF-200FG Auto Flash unit. The hot shoe mount flash uses TTL metering and is compatible with the new Pentax DSLR. The flash will retail for $149.95 when it becomes available in August.

"The P-TTL auto flash system assures proper exposure level by measuring the flash's pre-discharge with the camera's multi-pattern metering system," stated a company press release yesterday.

With a guide number of 20 (at ISO 100/m), the flash has a reported illumination range of 2.3 to 11.8 feet. The AF-200FG has a flash exposure compensation of 0.5 and -1 EV in P-TTL mode. The flash has a built-in, flip-down diffuser.

The Pentax AF-200FG Auto Flash unit uses four AA batteries.
