June 24, 2009 – Pentax expanded its lineup of weather-resistant cameras today with the 12.1-megapixel Optio W80, which is waterproof to depths of 16 feet (5 meters), dust resistant, shockproof from heights up to 3.3 feet (1 meter) and works at temperatures down to 14 degrees F (-10 degrees C). Equipped with a 5x optical zoom lens (equivalent to a 28-140mm in 35mm photography), the new camera shoots video at up to 1280x720 resolution (720p format), at 30 frames per second.
The Optio W80 measures 3.9 x 2.2 x 1.0 inches (9.9 x 5.6 x 2.5cm), with a 2.5-inch (6.5cm), 230,000-dot LCD. It will be available in three colors, grey, red and blue, starting in July, selling for $299.95.
