March 26, 2006 - Pentax yesterday launched a web site featuring images from the 2006 Kelly Slater Invitational surfing event in Kona, Hawaii, taken with Pentax’s waterproof Optio W10, the official camera of the event. Many of the attendees of the February 2006 surfing competition—including Hollywood celebrities, musical artists and surfers, not just professional photographers—were encouraged to snap pictures with Pentax’s waterproof compact.

In a press release, Pentax Imaging Company director of marketing Ned Bunnell stated, "We were very excited to be a part of KSI, which is all about having fun around water. Plus, the Web site PENTAX has sponsored will give Kelly’s friends and fans the opportunity to catch a glimpse of what happened at this year’s invitational."

The web site, www.kellyslaterinvitational.com, features an image gallery for surfers to peruse, as well as a contest they can enter to have a chance at winning a Quicksilver gear package—or an Optio W10, of course.

Pentax also stated that a goal of the site was to raise awareness for www.reefcheck.org, an international reef conservation association, though what form that awareness raising will take is as yet unclear.
