February 7, 2006 –* Pentax has announced that Pentax VN Co., Ltd, Pentax’s Vietnamese subsidiary, is planning to ramp up its production of digital specific lenses in order to meet growing demand. To this end, they are opening a second optical plant in Vietnam. The plant, which will be built adjacent to the current plant, should be fully operational by October of 2006 and employ 700-900 additional people.

This injection of production power, according to Pentax, should raise their unit output from 1 million to 1.6 million units per month, which is an indication of the strong growth the interchangeable lens market is experiencing.

Pentax manufactures a comprehensive line of interchangeable lenses for Pentax 35mm and medium-format SLR cameras and digital specific lenses for DSLRs, as well as lenses for camera phones.
