February 1, 2006 – Pentax has just announced that it will be dropping the price of their *ist DL DSLR kit, which includes the Pentax 18-55 DA lens, from $799.95 to $599.95. The *ist DL, which DigitalCameraInfo.com reviewed here in August of 2005, offers a 6.1 megapixel APS-format sensor, RAW file capability, and a 2.5-inch 210,000 pixel LCD screen.

Pentax cites the increased popularity of digital single lens reflex cameras (DSLRs), and subsequently a greater volume of Pentax DSLRs being sold, as the reason the price reduction is possible.

Pentax will also be offering rebates of up to $100 on their line of select digital lenses offered in the US. Pentax offers digitally specific lenses, in addition to their line of 35mm lenses that are compatible with their digital SLR cameras. The lenses offer manual and autofocus wide-angle, standard, zoom, telephoto and macro capabilities.
