September 1, 2006 – Memory card manufacturer Pretec announced on Thursday the "highest capacity SD card in the world," an 8GB SDHC memory card, according to a Thursday Pretec press release.

Known for its industry firsts with the world’s first 12 GB CompactFlash card and 4 GB MMC card, according to the company's statement, Pretec is releasing its largest storage SDHC memory card.

The 8 GB card comes equipped with Pretec’s SD-Tuner technology for use on SD host devices, SD 1.1 or 1.0, making the card backward compliant, stated the release. The Pretec SDHC card has a processing speed of up to 20 MB per second.

The Pretec 8GB SDHC card will retail for $299 when it becomes available in October.
