Samsung has announced two new compact point & shoot cameras that offer long zoom lenses: the 12x $279.99 WB210 and the 10x $199.99 PL210. Both cameras are relatively small for the size of zoom that they offer: the WB210 is just 22.4mm (0.88 inches) thick, while the PL210 is 19.7mm (0.77 inches) thick when closed. Both cameras capture 14-megapixel images, but the screen sizes differ: the WB210 has a 3.5-inch screen, while the PL210 has a 3-inch one.
The details of the zooms also differ: the WB210 has an impressively wide wide angle setting of 21mm, while the PL210 has a smaller (but still very wide) 27mm widest zoom setting. The WB210 has a maximum focal length of 288mm, while the PL210 goes out to a 270mm length. Either way, that is an impressive zoom range for a compact camera.
Both cameras will be available in February. The WB210 will be priced at $279.99, and the PL210 at $199.99.
