July 30, 2007 – Samsung today expanded its line of NV point-and-shoot cameras with the 12-megapixel NV20, 10-megapixel NV15, and the 8-megapixel NV8. The cameras tout Smart Touch interfaces, face detection, Advanced Shake Reduction, and new Auto Contrast Balance and Image Noise Reduction functions. The Samsung NV20 will retail for $399 and the NV15 for $299 when the cameras become available in the fall. Pricing and availability for the NV8 have not been announced.

"This is not your typical family of point-and-shoot digital cameras. At Samsung, we take great pride in the NV series because of the firsts that it brings to market, including our revolutionary Smart Touch interface, as well as the WOW factor that makes the cameras stand out from the crowd, said Samsung Vice President Stewart Henderson of Opto-Electronics America in a company press release today.

Samsung launched its NV - or 'New Vision' - line last summer, part of the company's initiative to be one of the top camera manufacturer's in the world.

The NV20, NV15, and NV8 carry the Smart Touch system of previous NV cameras. The touchscreen interface allows users to slide their fingers across the screen to access functions, unlike traditional button designs. The Samsung point-and-shoots are each fitted with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD monitor.

The new Samsung cameras include several features to aid in shooting. The improved Advanced Shake Reduction (ASR) reduces blur in photos caused by hand shake and the maximum ISO of 3200 allows for low-light shooting. New features include an Auto Contrast Balance (ACB) that compensates for back-lit situations. The new Image Noise Reduction feature promises improved noise reduction at high ISO settings.

The three cameras offer a high-resolution Movie mode that records at a resolution of 640x480 at 30fps. The 3x optical zoom is functional while shooting movies and Samsung's Successive Recording mode allows users to pause recording without starting a new file, according to the release.

The new models also include the company's Face Detection technology that detects up to nine faces and 14 scene modes.

The Samsung NV20, NV15, and NV8 include 20MB of internal memory and accept SD and SDHC media.
