September 8, 2005 – Sanyo today added the 6 megapixel Xacti E6 to their consumer digital camera line. The Xacti E6 features a giant 3-inch LCD screen and is expected to be available by the end of the month at an estimated price of $399.99

Along with its large 3-inch LCD screen, the Xacti E6 features Sanyo’s "Touch Sensor Shutter Button" technology which allows the camera’s shutter button to sense the lightest touch and initiate auto focus, avoiding the potentially uncomfortable two-step shutter release setup. Typically, point-and-shoot cameras will initiate focus when the shutter release is half-way depressed and capture images when the shutter release is fully depressed.

The 3-inch screen of the 6 megapixel Xacti E6 will provide users with roughly 230 percent more viewing area than a 2-inch LCD screen. Utilizing this extra space, Sanyo has equipped the Xacti E6 with a "Best Shot" mode, whereby four shots of the same subject with different settings are taken consecutively and then displayed on the screen so the user can select the best one.

The Xacti E6 relies on a 9-point auto focus system and is able to capture full-frame, 640 x 480 video at 30 frames per second. The camera features a 3x optical zoom lens that does not extend from the camera’s body. The Xacti E6 measures 3.8 x 2.3 x 0.9 inches and weighs 5.6 ounces without its rechargeable lithium-ion battery or SD memory card.

The Xacti E6 joins the 6 megapixel Xacti S6 in Sanyo’s product line as they attempt to establish a presence in the American digital camera market. Announced late last month, the Xacti S6 features a 3x optical zoom lens, a 2-inch LCD screen and the same Touch Sensor Button as the E6. Measuring 3.7 x 2.4 x 1.1-inches, the S6 weighs 4.8 ounces, without battery or memory card, and is expected to be available in October at an estimated price of $299.99
