Steve Anchell from Shutterbug put the Nikon D300 under the spotlight  to see if it lives up to its name. As expected the camera emerged

as a winner and hence comes with a recommended tag.

Easy switching to DX mode, a spot on exposure, a great auto focus mode and the 9 fps in full-frame Capture mode makes the camera a great buy. And at ISO 800 and DX mode the noise is almost imperceptible.

However the D300 has a complicated menu interface and the self-timer and mirror lockup sit next to each other ,which means you can’t use one while using the other.

Verdict:
"All told, the good is really good, and the bad isn’t so bad. This is a fully featured pro camera in the venerable Nikon tradition. It looks to me that Nikon is not only back in the game but has a winner."
