July 25, 2007* – Sigma has announced the addition of Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) functionality to two of its Nikon-mounted lenses. The 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO HSM and 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC MACRO HSM both feature HSM functionality in their newest models, and will allow for autofocusing in all Nikon DSLRs.

The HSM system allows for a minimum focusing distance of 7.9 inches and a maximum magnification of 1:2.3, according to the Sigma website. Sigma released two other HSM functional lenses for Nikon-mount systems earlier this month, the 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 and 55-200mm F4-5.6 lenses.
