October 23, 2006 – To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Women In Photography International (WIPI) recently announced a call for entries for "The Portrait" contest.

Established in 1981, the nonprofit organization promotes the visibility of women in the industry by providing resources such as their eZine, f2. The call for entries requires a two-image minimum in JPEG format of traditional and non-traditional portraits of families, strangers, self, or even animals. If submitted before Oct. 31st, the entry fee is $50 for two images. For those images submitted after Oct. 31st, the fee is $50 for each image.

The jurors of the WIPI contest have yet to be announced. Twenty-five winning images will be selected, and prizes include an Epson Stylus Photo 2400 printer, and a Kodak EasyShare Picture Viewer, among other prizes.

Each year, WIPI also honors women with the Distinguished Photographer’s Award. Former winners of the award include Annie Leibovitz, Sylvia Plachy, and Linda McCartney.

The submission deadline for the WIPI The Portrait contest is Nov. 25th. Entry forms are available at http://www.womeninphotography.org/wipihome.html.
