AS we wandered the halls of IFA 2015 in Berlin this month, we stumbled upon something unusual from European appliance manufacturer Vestel—a hybrid cooktop with two gas burners and two induction burners.
The combination makes this cooktop a great choice for consumers who are nervous about trying induction cooking tech, or who own some non-induction-compatible cookware, allowing them to fall back on tried-and-true gas burners if necessary. The only problem? The hybrid cooktop will require both a gas line and a 220-volt power line, which few American kitchens have.
In this particular case, that doesn't matter. Vestel's hybrid cooktop won't be making it's way to the U.S. any time soon. But this sort of design could prove to be a smart way to get more American cooks into induction, so we wouldn't be surprised to see a similar model hit our shores in the near future.
