Washing delicate stemware is a pain: Handwashing is tedious, but if you put your delicate glasses in the dishwasher, there’s a good chance they might break—if they fit at all.
That’s why we were so excited to check out the new Electrolux Glass Basket dishwasher accessory, a safe place to store wine glasses and champagne flutes. It was on display at Design Week in Milan—and, while it might not ever make it to the cover of Architectural Digest, it’s brilliant in its simplicity.
It fits in the bottom rack of almost any dishwasher with tines that fold flat, so it’s also a helpful way to clean up lots of stemware after a party. When it’s not in use, the Glass Basket collapses into a smaller footprint for easier storage. That’s unlike the similar Samsung Flex Glass Rack, which must be stored at its full size.
Also unlike the Samsung Flex Glass Rack, which is only sold along with the Samsung DW80J9945US (MSRP $1,199), the Electrolux Glass Basket is sold separately.
It’s currently only for sale in Europe for about $35—cheaper than a few pieces of high-end stemware. We hope it goes on sale in the U.S. soon.
