Ask any pool owner, and they've got a story. Something like the water turned swamp green and the maintenance company ghosted their call.

Hiring out pool maintenance should bring peace of mind, but when you don't know who to trust, it feels like throwing money at another headache. That's why we do the Readers' Choice Awards, to hear from readers who've dealt with these companies firsthand.

Our expert panel evaluated 15 pool maintenance companies, and now it's your turn to tell us which deserve praise.

Voting has closed. We'll announce the winners on October 15.

Nominee #1: America's Swimming Pool Company (ASP)

Since 2002, America's Swimming Pool Company has grown into a 257-location franchise spanning 22 states, and much of that growth comes down to a piece of software called PoolOps. The proprietary mobile platform documents every visit with photos, chemical readings, arrival timestamps, and billing, all visible to the homeowner. It's transparency that turns a historically trust-me industry into a show-me one. Franchisees train through the company's Pool School program in Macon, Georgia, and benefit from national purchasing partnerships with Pentair, Hayward, and Zodiac. Now part of the Authority Brands family, ASP brings franchise maturity and digital accountability to a category where both remain the exception rather than the rule.

Nominee #2: American Pool

Founded in 1984 in Maryland, American Pool built a reputation for managing aquatics at scale, serving more than 1,700 commercial and residential facilities across 13 states, staffed by more than 10,000 seasonal lifeguards and supervisors alongside a full-time support team of 300. The company's roots are institutional: HOA pools, country clubs, hotels, apartment complexes. But that commercial DNA is exactly what makes its residential maintenance arm compelling. When a company is accustomed to the compliance standards, safety documentation, and operational consistency required by a hotel chain or a 500-unit apartment community, the bar it sets for a single backyard pool tends to be higher than what a residential-only operator might deliver.

Nominee #3: Anthony & Sylvan Pools

Eight decades of building in-ground pools gives you an understanding of pool systems that a maintenance-only company simply can't replicate. Anthony & Sylvan Pools, building since 1946, puts that construction expertise to work in its dedicated maintenance operation. The company offers cleaning, water testing, seasonal opening and closing, and equipment repair across 13 states and Washington, D.C., and it services any residential pool, not just ones it built. That perspective means technicians understand how pumps, filters, and surface materials interact as a system, not just a checklist of individual components. Anthony & Sylvan also runs retail locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey offering complimentary water testing with detailed printouts and treatment guidance.

Nominee #4: Heritage Pool Supply Group

You may never see the Heritage Pool Supply Group name on a service truck, but there's a good chance it's behind the parts and training that keep your local pool technician effective. Heritage runs more than 160 locations across 36 states as a distributor and technical education resource, supplying equipment, chemicals, and components to the professionals who maintain residential pools. Pairing parts sourcing with structured technician instruction—keeping field staff current on evolving equipment, water chemistry protocols, and repair techniques—puts Heritage in a critical infrastructure role in the quality of pool care homeowners receive. Our panel nominated Heritage because the pool maintenance ecosystem doesn't run on service visits alone; someone has to make sure the people doing the work have the right parts and the right knowledge, and Heritage does both.

Nominee #5: Leslie's

When Philip Leslie opened a single pool supply store in Los Angeles in 1963, the backyard pool was still a relative luxury. Six decades and more than 900 locations later, Leslie's has become the largest direct-to-customer brand in the U.S. pool and spa care industry. The company now deploys more than 200 service professionals for on-site equipment installation, repair, and maintenance, while its stores offer a complimentary AccuBlue water test that delivers a 10-point analysis, a pool health score, and a custom treatment plan in about 60 seconds. Pool owners can walk into a store for advice, order supplies online, or schedule a technician visit.

Nominee #6: National Pool Partners

The residential pool maintenance industry is famously fragmented—millions of pools, thousands of independent operators, and very little standardization. National Pool Partners is attempting to change that by merging established local brands in Arizona, Texas, and Florida and unifying them under shared operational and quality standards. Its portfolio includes names like Patriot Pool & Spa, Pool Doctor, Aquaman Pools, Magnolia Pool and Spa, and Ambiance Pool Service—companies that already had loyal customer bases before joining the NPP network. NPP joined the CERTUS family of home service brands in early 2026.

Nominee #7: Pinch A Penny

Since 1975, Pinch A Penny has operated as a franchise-based hybrid: part retail pool supply store, part professional maintenance-and-repair dispatch, all run from the same local storefront. That integrated model lets you walk in for a free computerized seven-point water test, walk out with a chemical dosing recommendation, and schedule a technician from the same counter. The company operates more than 300 stores across Florida, Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Texas, handling everything from weekly cleaning and equipment repair to leak detection and acid washing, though services vary by location.

Nominee #8: Pinnacle Pool Service

Unlike companies that treat maintenance as a secondary revenue stream behind pool construction, Pinnacle Pool Service is built entirely around keeping existing pools running properly. Working in Florida, Missouri, Nebraska, and Texas, the company handles cleaning, chemical balancing, equipment repair, and leak detection for residential pools, drawing on the institutional knowledge of a sibling construction brand under parent Premier Franchise Management to inform its diagnostic approach. Technicians look beyond surface-level cleanliness to spot underlying mechanical or plumbing problems that can snowball into expensive repairs if left unaddressed. When your pool maintenance company also understands how the pool was built, how the plumbing runs, where the structural stress points are, and what the equipment was designed to do, the quality of the maintenance conversation changes entirely.

Nominee #9: Pool Chlor

Here's a company with a beautifully narrow thesis: water chemistry is the most consequential part of pool ownership, and most homeowners shouldn't be managing it themselves. Pool Chlor, which traces its origins to 1955, does exactly one thing across California, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas: professional water chemistry management that keeps pools sanitized, balanced, and, by the company's own claim, so pure it's safe to drink. Pool Chlor guarantees algae-free water under its stated service conditions, with remedies applied at management's discretion, and homeowners never purchase or handle chemicals directly. Independent owners manage each location locally, giving the operation a neighborhood feel despite its multi-state reach.

Nominee #10: Pool Scouts

Transparency is the brand promise at Pool Scouts, and the company has built its technology stack to prove it. Launched in 2016 under Buzz Franchise Brands in Virginia Beach, Pool Scouts now operates in 16 states. The company provides weekly and biweekly residential pool cleaning, along with minor repairs, seasonal services, and chemical balancing. Every visit ends with a post-service report summarizing water test results and the work performed. That running notation creates a longitudinal record of the pool's condition, which technicians use to spot trends and adjust treatments proactively. "Did someone actually show up?" is one of the most common anxieties in pool maintenance. Pool Scouts answers it in writing after every visit.

Nominee #11: Pool Troopers

In Florida, Texas, Arizona, Georgia, and South Carolina, five states where pools see heavy, year-round use, Pool Troopers combines chemical treatment with mechanical upkeep in a single recurring visit, treating every appointment as a diagnostic opportunity. A standard stop covers netting, wall brushing, vacuuming, tile and basket cleaning, filter cleaning, and a full chemistry check. That integrated chemical-and-mechanical approach means one company is accountable for the full picture: skimming, balancing, pump performance, filter condition, everything.

Pool Troopers has serviced pools since 1952 and grows by acquiring local operators rather than franchising. In January 2026, Pool Troopers was acquired by SPS PoolCare, which is Nominee #15 on our list.

Nominee #12: Poolwerx

Originally an Australian franchise founded in 1992, Poolwerx brings something different to the U.S. residential pool maintenance market: a safety-first operational culture created in one of the world's most stringent pool regulatory environments. Now operating across 16 U.S. states, the company provides residential cleaning, water testing, equipment repair, and seasonal maintenance that mirror its international roots. Technicians train at a 10,000-square-foot facility in Dallas covering water chemistry, equipment diagnostics, and workplace safety. More than 35 U.S. locations pair retail storefronts with mobile maintenance, so you can pick up supplies and book service in one stop.

Nominee #13: Premier Pool Service

A dedicated maintenance focus and a structured franchise backbone define Premier Pool Service. The company operates across 19 states with more than 30 franchise locations, concentrating on weekly residential pool care: complete water chemistry analysis, equipment inspection and servicing, and comprehensive cleaning. Its sibling brand under parent Premier Franchise Management is one of the country's largest pool builders, so each Premier Pool Service location draws on shared training resources and operational systems while remaining locally managed.

Nominee #14: Puddle Pool Services

Two of the most common frustrations in pool maintenance are unclear pricing and uncertainty about whether the technician showed up. Puddle Pool Services has made solving both problems its entire brand identity. After every visit, homeowners receive an e-report documenting the work performed, chemicals used, chemical levels, and timestamped before-and-after photos that prove the job got done as promised. Founded in Canada in 2018 and now franchising across roughly 47 territories in the U.S. and Canada, Puddle pairs that documentation-first approach with upfront pricing and technicians trained to be professional and personable.

Nominee #15: SPS PoolCare

Data-driven pool maintenance is a rare pitch in this industry, but SPS PoolCare is building a business around it. Operating as a consolidator across Texas, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, and Georgia, five of the country's most pool-dense markets, the Austin-based company has completed more than 150 acquisitions since 2021, folding established local businesses into a shared enterprise platform that handles route optimization and automated chemical tracking. The result is local technicians who know their routes and customers, supported by data infrastructure that a solo operation could never build. Whether that analytical layer produces better water quality outcomes for homeowners is the bet SPS is making, and in Sun Belt markets where the high volume of pools demands efficiency at scale, the approach represents an emerging model for how pool maintenance may evolve beyond the clipboard-and-truck era.
