The '70s are back and establishing roots in contemporary home décor. There are the obvious contenders: vibrant colors and funky shapes, trademarks of '70s design. But, there are also subtle accent pieces, and one of our favorites is the mushroom lamp.

Mushroom lamps are so named for their fungi-reminiscent shape, and there are actually two distinct types from the 1970s: the Panthella and the Murano.

The Panthella mushroom lamp is traditionally constructed out of metal and features a slim base accompanied by a broad, round top.

Additionally, the Murano lamp was popularized around the same time. Crafted out of all glass, it originates in Murano, Italy, a small island near Venice. Its mushroom shape leans shorter and stouter and comes in a variety of glasswork designs. Typically, Murano lamps are colorful with vivid patterns.

Both the Panthella and Murano mushroom lamps are experiencing a renaissance right now, and you can find one that’s just right for your home style.
