What can you change about a dryer? It’s a heated box that tumbles clothes until they (hopefully) come out dry. Whirlpool didn’t alter the basic functionality when they made the WED7500GC dryer (available at AppliancesConnection for $674.00). But they made it really easy to use.

It's a worthy companion to the Whirlpool WTW7500GC washing machine. The touch controls are intuitive and well laid out. Even if you’ve never done laundry before, you could figure out the best way to dry your clothes in this machine. And our tests show that everything is going to come out close to 100% dry, in less time than you probably expected.

This dryer opens from the front, similar to a laundry hamper. It's not the largest dryer on the market, but it's very fast and thorough.

Design and Features

The first time you gaze on the control panel, you might wonder how to use it. But you’ll figure it out quickly. The buttons on the left let you pick what to dry, and the buttons on the right let you pick how to dry. There are 21 different combinations, so feel free to customize each load. The user manual tells you which selections are compatible. In time, you’ll come to recognize each button’s distinctive little tune.

The door opens outward, like a clothes hamper, and it closes by itself. Unfortunately, it slams shut. The lock on the door caught some of our test laundry while we were loading. Watch out for that, too.

The screen on the dryer's lint filter feels insubstantial. Be careful when you clean it, which you have to do after running every load.

A lint filter doesn’t have to be fancy to work, but the screen on this one feels flimsy. Be careful when you clean it, so you don't poke a hole in it.

Performance

If you’re looking to dry a load of laundry quickly, the Normal cycle will blow you away with its amazing 38-minute duration. It’s gentle, too, running at only 123°F. And if you’re in a big hurry, the quick cycle can get it dry in 22 minutes. Both the bulky and the delicates cycles take an hour, but that’s fine. Both come in under 150°.

The controls on the right side of the intuitive touch panel enables you to select how to dry the load. Similar controls on the left side allow you to choose what you'd like to dry.

What owners say

Most people who purchased this dryer appreciate its speed and thorough drying. A few commented on the flimsiness of some of the parts, which we noticed too.

The bottom line: a great companion to the WTW7500GC washer

The WTW7500GC makes drying literally a breeze. It's roomy enough to hold everything that comes out of the WTW7500GC top loader, or your current washer. This dryer can get your family’s shirts and socks dry in a Normal cycle in just over a half hour. Toss in your bulkiest comforter, come back for it in 60 minutes, and make the bed right away—it’s dry enough.

You don’t need to know too much about laundry to use this dryer. And Whirlpool shows that they get it—you shouldn't have to.
