Frigidaire Says Your Washer Doesn't Have to Be Ugly

You design your kitchen—why not your laundry room?

Walk into my kitchen and, if you look hard enough, you'll eventually find the washer and dryer. They're stacked and hidden behind doors that match the paneling throughout the rest of the room, camouflaged and only ever seen by those who know where to look.

But all things considered, that's actually a fairly prominent place for one's laundry machines, right? Most washers and dryers are exiled to the basement, or the bathroom. We've seen people so ashamed of their machines that they keep them in a shed out back.

Frigidaire wants to change all that, starting with a prototype based on the company's existing washer-dryer laundry center. But this two-in-one has the important addition of a "Classic Slate" color option, designed to match the rest of your kitchen appliances.

It's a small change, but for only $150 extra (bringing the likely cost to somewhere around $1,550), your laundry eyesores could be transformed into points of pride. That's the European way, and already the direction this show seems to be moving.

This version will also ship with a 4.0-cubic-foot option (huge for this class), and has a high-efficiency impeller, compared to the agitator poles often found in washers of this type.
