The '90s were filled with plenty of iconic pop culture figures—many of whom we still admire today. From teen heartthrobs (hello, young Leonardo DiCaprio) to musical superstars (we love you, Britney), it was a decade of trailblazers. In the world of nineties hair, however, no one quite made their mark like Danielle Fishel, of Boy Meets World fame. You know her as Topanga Lawrence, who, through seven seasons of the beloved sitcom, brought us countless incredible mane moments and had tweens everywhere envious of her glorious, shiny locks.
Twenty years after the series' wrap and we're still thinking about Topanga hair—those ultra-luscious, bouncy waves that so many millennials begged their hairdressers to replicate. In the hopes of figuring out how exactly the actress achieves her covetable 'do, we sat down with Fishel to discuss her hair care routine, which, thanks to her Be Free line and a few key styling tools, is now attainable for the masses, too.
1. This Revlon round hair brush perfect for blow drying
Every ‘do needs its perfect brush, and for Danielle, it’s this round hair brush from Revlon. “To me, it's the easiest way to get a professional-looking blow dry without needing to go to a salon,” Danielle explained. Specifically, she loves the Revlon 2-inch round barrel brush, which allows her to achieve a salon-worthy blowout at home, complete with the “curled ends and high volume” that’s become her signature. Amazon reviewers also swear by this brush for its volume-building powers and easy maneuverability.

2. The cult-favorite Revlon One-Step
Danielle is just one of hundreds of thousands of shoppers who have sung the praises of the Revlon One Step. In her words, “Nothing dries my hair faster, and nothing gets it straighter” than the coveted beauty tool, which has garnered universal acclaim (and over 250,000 glowing reviews on Amazon) for its ability to detangle, dry, and volumize hair in 30 minutes or less. Even our tester agrees that the 1100-watt brush is a total must-have to leave your hair dry, sleek, and silky after a shower. “What a game-changer,” Fishel adds.

3. An argan oil to use all over your body
Renowned for its many beauty benefits, argan oil is one nourishing product that has become a staple in Danielle’s routine. “It's incredible for hair, skin, and nails and I use it on my face every night” says Danielle. Thanks to its vitamin E and fatty acid-rich composition, the nut-based oil has powerful moisturizing properties, and can work its magic on anything from dry hair to brittle nails. QVC shoppers describe this Josie Maran oil as “liquid gold,” and stress that a little goes a long way.

4. A Moroccan oil to infuse your hair with moisture
Moroccan oil is a combination of argan oil plus other oils and additives. Packed with omega fatty acids, it’s ideal for adding shine to damaged hair, or in Danielle’s case, to make her strands “look a little piece-y” or “give some extra moisture to the ends” after she blow dries it. This option from Sephora has garnered close to 130,000 “loves” on the site and holds an overall 4.6-star rating for taming frizz well and leaving hair silky smooth.

5. The Be Free detangler for knot-free tresses
Of all the hair products she mentions, Danielle maintains that her Be Free detangler is the one she can’t live without the most. “I have very thick hair that's naturally wavy, and sometimes when I haven't used a hair mask or I've just done a quick shampoo and condition, getting out of the shower and trying to brush through my hair is difficult... but with the detangler I never have to worry,” she explains.
Another bonus? “It's really lightweight and doesn't weigh hair down.” We’ve also deemed the Be Free line “a no-brainer” purchase for being simple, safe, and effective—and making your hair look and smell incredible!

6. A set of scrunchies so one is always within reach
Scrunchies seem to be one trend from the ‘90s that are here to stay, especially in Danielle’s household. The actress reveals she keeps them in basically every room of her home, “next to [her] bed, a few in [her] purse, and some in [her] car,” as she’s “always putting [her] hair up throughout the day.”
As for recommendations, Danielle mentions that her favorite scrunchies are made by Sabrina Carpenter's (Girl Meets World) sister, Cayla Carpenter. “She's a hairdresser, and she just started selling scrunchies through her store, Public + Private. She makes all different kinds—velvet, satin—with different color palettes. Hers are the best.” A solid dupe comes in the form of these retro-inspired Athleta scrunchies, which reviewers are happy to report “stay in place for long time” and are “great for working out.”

7. The famed Dyson hair dryer for Drybar-esque results
Like everyone else who desperately missed getting their hair done during the pandemic, Danielle had to find a way to bring the salon home to her. Although she was “originally rocking [her] natural waves and loving it,” she “eventually wanted to put more effort in,” which led to a splurge-worthy investment: The Dyson Supersonic.
Describing the beloved hair tool, Danielle states, “It's very lightweight and easy to maneuver, which is great. I use the second heat setting, which gets plenty hot enough for me; I like knowing that I'm protecting my hair by not using a super high heat setting.” As one of the best hair dryers we’ve tested, we were equally as impressed!

8. A Tangle Teezer brush to use while you condition
To achieve her ultra-soft, healthy tresses, Danielle’s process starts while she’s still in the shower. One trick the star relies on is using a Tangle Teezer brush to work her conditioner through her strands. “It's a palm-sized brush that has these very soft bristles that go in all different directions. It makes brushing out tangled hair a breeze. In combination with my detangler, it works wonders,” the actress shares.

9. This curling system from the Boy Meets World days
As for her Topanga hair, Danielle divulges that the stylists on set depended on one tool in particular to get those famous waves: the Caruso molecular curling system.
To use it, add in the required amount of hot water and salt, plug in the container, and wait for the water to boil. The machine will then release steam onto the foam curlers, which are then twisted around the hair. “I swear to this day, nothing gets you better curls—talk about an OG hair styling tool!” Fishel exclaims.
