With Memorial Day officially in the rearview, that means summer is here. And along with warmer days comes day trips to the beach, warm weather vacations, or just lounging by the pool. All of those activities call for a swimsuit. But let’s be real. Shopping for a swimsuit, especially online, has to be one of the most difficult tasks.
Is the fit true to size? Will the cup fit but the waist might be off? Is the back of the suit full coverage or a bit too cheeky? So many questions!
We previously shared the best places to shop for swimsuits and now we’ve rounded up the actual best suits for the season. These are based on trendy prints and cutouts, bold colors and classic hues, and a range of coverage from skimpy to more modest for every body type and style. Some of these suits are so gorgeous, they can easily double as tops with your favorite shorts or sarong.
1. For the pinup babe
Blogger Gabi Fresh has been a staple in the plus-size community for years, so her latest collaboration with Swimsuits for All is a more than welcome style treat. The two-piece has trendy cutouts and a pinup vibe, but what we really love is the ability to shop for a suit ideal for your body. Though this bikini is sold as a set, you can select a bra and bottom in varying sizes, which go up to a 26G/H and 10-26, respectively, to get the perfect fit.
2. For your next Caribbean getaway
You’ve probably seen fringe on accessories, especially earrings, boots, and of course jackets, but the extra long fringe on this swimsuit from Venus adds a bit of flair to a place you don’t often see it. The three tiers of fringe are too cute for words, but in addition to the fashion, this suit is also functional with a removable halter strap and slimming stomach panel. Dare you not to twirl in a suit this fun.
3. For the adult who can’t get enough of florals
Florals aren’t groundbreaking, but the cutesy print can often seem a bit young and even childlike. However, the floral prints you’ll find this season are all grown up and feature detailed edges. Take this Peek & Beau bottom from ASOS: it’s colorful but can easily mix and match with the tops you already have in your stash. Or you can always buy the corresponding bikini top for $21 if you want to let your floral flag fly this summer.
4. For the nautical lover
For years, stripes got a bad rap in fashion for being less than flattering on any figure. However, a great vertical stripe can actually elongate your frame. This ModCloth number comes in a navy stripe or even thinner rainbow hues and it goes up to size 3X so everyone can enjoy this trend.
5. For the classic with a twist
Why is this swimsuit from Nordstrom Rack a cut above the rest? The cutout midsection is certainly on trend, but it’s the texture that truly makes this suit stand out. And though white is already sold out, we think either the marigold or blue would look fabulous on anyone.
6. For the trendsetter
One trend that’s going strong has to be the layered, two-piece look that’s really a one piece! The Aeire plunging neckline suit from American Eagle also comes with a bandeau top. In addition to the unique style, it’s available in XXS-XXL, as well as long for longer torsos.
7. For the eco-chic
It’s all in the details with this suit. As one of Summersalt’s best-selling suits, this one piece’s mesh midsection panels show a hint of skin while the one-shoulder and cut out back add tons of visual interest. Also, you can feel good about yourself knowing this suit is made from recycled materials.
8. For the cheeky
There are more than 10,000 one-piece swimsuits for sale on Amazon, so finding the right one can seem like an endless task. But if you want to channel major Baywatch vibes, then this suit with close to 3,000 reviews is for you. The high cut at the hip and low scooped back are sure to turn heads and make you nostalgic for the ’90s. It’s available in 11 colors, including black, red and camouflage pink.
9. For the head turner
You’ve heard of a bikini and a tankini, but what about the midkini? This peplum top from plus-size apparel store Torrid is the perfect compliment to any bottom. It provides underwire support and cups are available in “regular” (with removable inserts) or “full” to support whatever you’re working with.
10. For the woman who wants more coverage
Two-piece suits and cutouts are fun, but sometimes you might want a bit more material. This one piece, a part of the Lands’ End SlenderSuits collection, has built-in support that smoothes and shapes, a universally flattering sweetheart neckline and the suit even offers sun protection. Also available in regular, petite, or long, It’s no wonder this suit has more than 500 reviews.
11. For the bold
If there’s one animal print that’s everywhere right now, it would be leopard. But snakeskin is finally getting its moment in the sun too, literally. Can’t you just see yourself on a tropical getaway in this two-piece bikini that’s available in red, orange, green or yellow from Zaful? If you ever get tired of the snakeskin, the suit is reversible with a solid color on the other side. It’s like two suits for the price of one.
12. For the swimsuit that doubles as a bodysuit
A basic black suit is just so, well, basic. But there’s nothing boring about this suit from BooHoo that combines a classic cut with a statement sleeve. The bold, flouncy sleeve can provide coverage for your arms or it’s just a powerfulway to stand out from a sea of black suits on the beach. Either way, you’ll look fly.
13. For the boho vibe
Off-the-shoulder tops are still holding strong in 2019, and that trend trickles down to swimsuits as well. If you want to give your spaghetti strap bikini a rest, this top from PacSun is a great alternative. The short sleeves and lettuce edge trim add fun details that make this easy to match with a cute pair of high waist shorts for a beach day.
14. For the perfect fit
Crochet isn’t just for a cute bag to bring to a family picnic or outdoor music festival. The knotted material also makes for super cute bikini tops. The double straps and halter neck of this crochet bikini top from Bare Necessities provide the amount of support anyone can get behind. While the top ranges from C to FF, be mindful that they’re all in UK sizing. However, if you know your usual size in a different brand, Bare Necessities offers a “Convert My Size” tool to suggest the best fit.
15. For the glam girl
Have you ever found yourself wanting to pack a ton of swimsuits for a vacation? Well, you could do that or just pack this versatile Figleaves suit. The mesh panels at the neckline can be worn at least three different ways, including as a halter neck, crisscrossed straps, and even sleeves. While it’s almost $100, the versatility of this stylish one-piece is well worth the price.
16. For the print lover
While you might not think to pair stripes and florals, Shade & Shore, one of Target’s newest collections, does the print mixing for you. We’re big fans of this top in particular. The thick halter style straps can be tied to your level of comfort and instead of shopping for the top based on small, medium, large, etc., you choose your fit by cup sizes, with options going up to a DDD. Its matching bottoms are $19.99, but a lot of sizes are sold out already, so try pairing the top with a basic bottom in a complementary color (black always works too).
17. For the sporty spice
Some suits are itty bitty and don’t allow much wiggle room, but this H&M one-piece is the exact opposite. It’s definitely for the woman on the go or the person who’ll be out on the water or sand for hours and prefers more coverage. While the suit has long sleeves and a high collar, the zipper can be as high or low as your preference.
