PlayOn, a media browser and server currently available for Windows PCs, now offers support for HD streaming, as well as HD recording through its PlayLater "online DVR."

Moving forward, PlayOn also plans to provide support for Chromecast.

PlayOn prides itself on offering consumers an easy way to view content on their TVs or mobile devices without cable or satellite connections. PlayOn works with partner media devices, such as the Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, Roku, and now the Xbox One, to serve video content from Windows PCs to connected devices. Moving forward, PlayOn also plans to provide support for Chromecast.

Existing users can add HD capability to their accounts for a one-time upgrade fee of $4.99 for PlayOn or PlayLater individually, or $7.99 for when you bundle both services. New subscribers can get a lifetime subscription to all the HD goodness for $50—including both PlayOn and PlayLater functionality—while the company's holiday sale lasts.
