With the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni, you kill two birds with one stone since you’re getting both a robot vacuum and a robot mop in one device. It offers powerful suction and fast mopping that’s equivalent to 200 high-speed scrubbing and rinsing actions per minute, so you get a deep clean of hardwood floors, tiles, and carpets.
Built-in AI technology, called AIVI 3D 3.0, ensures the robot accurately maps the home and chooses the most intelligent cleaning path, adjusting from dry vacuuming to wet mopping based on the surface it’s on. Getting right to the edges of walls and furniture, it can recognize and navigate around objects and even provide voice guidance; it can also accept voice commands. Once finished, the charging dock washes and dries the roller head, making everyday maintenance a breeze.
How we tested
We used this vacuum on the main level of a three-story home, which measures approximately 1,500 square feet in size and features a hallway, living room, dining room, kitchen, and an open doorway to the basement stairs.
The floor includes a mix of hardwood, kitchen tiles, a medium-thickness living room carpet, and a thin carpet runner in the hallway. With numerous obstructions, including furniture and intentionally placed items to test its object avoidance, such as socks and shoes, the machine was put through its paces.
We tried various scenario cleans, including Deep Clean, Post-meal Clean (which targets just the kitchen), and our own custom scenarios. We also simulated spills on carpets and kitchen tiles, including clumps of hair and coffee grounds, to see how the robot handled the vacuum and mop process when performing both tasks on the same surface.
The vacuum was used periodically over a few weeks for cleaning. For mopping, we used a combination of water and the Ecovacs-approved cleaning solution, which is sold separately.
What we like
Effortless cleaning with the dock that auto-washes and dries
The Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni serves dual purposes as both a robot vacuum and a mop, but that doesn’t mean it requires double the maintenance. In fact, the process is pretty effortless. Once the robot has completed its job, it returns to its dock, where the dustbin empties into a bag and the dock initiates a mop cleaning process.
The dock uses hot water to auto-wash the mop pan, then hot air to dry it so it’s ready for your next clean. While it’s still recommended to manually clean and air-dry the roller mop weekly, it’s a far cry from using a bucket with soapy water and a traditional mop.
It navigates intelligently, accurately detecting surfaces

Getting right to the edges of walls and furniture, it can recognize and navigate around objects and even provide voice guidance.
The robot not only navigates intelligently once it has mapped your home, but it also does so quickly. When the robot has somewhere to go, whether it’s directly to the kitchen for a focused scenario clean or back to its dock at the end of a job or to empty the dustbin, it scoots across the floor faster than a toddler who has just learned to run.
It wonderfully gets right up to the edges and corners of the wall, so you have fewer manual touch-ups to do after each job for areas like baseboards. The mop even protrudes and retracts for a more thorough clean.
It can scale small level changes between a dining room and kitchen, navigate with ease over all types of surfaces, and lift itself like a cat ready to pounce (OK, not quite that high) to get over the raised edge of a carpet. Speaking of lifting, the mop also intelligently lifts once it detects carpet, then returns to its original position once it’s on flooring again.
The X8 Pro Omni does a great job navigating around obstacles, including socks, shoes, and even human feet. It occasionally got things like wires trapped in the roller or bumped into smaller items. At first, it would start and stop frequently, saying something was tangled in the brush when it wasn’t. However, for the most part, the camera works beautifully, helping it avoid obstacles and navigate with ease.
The app provides helpful troubleshooting and guidance
The app is useful for starting, stopping, or pausing a clean, setting up and selecting scenario cleans, sending it back to its dock, checking status, and even buying accessories or parts. It also provides useful troubleshooting and guidance for interpreting messages the vacuum’s built-in speaker provides via a comforting female voice.
For example, when I received a malfunction notice, I could check the app for troubleshooting tips. It turned out the clean water tank was not full enough, and the dirty water tank wasn’t properly latched and closed.
You also receive a comprehensive cleaning log after each clean, detailing the areas cleaned, the path taken by the vacuum and mop, and the duration of the clean. It took just under an hour to clean the main level of the home, including the hallway, kitchen, dining room, and living room.
What we don’t like
It’s pretty loud
As far as robot vacuum/mop combos go, this one is pretty loud. It isn’t a cleaner you can run in the background while you’re on a Zoom call or watching TV. It’s best to run it when you’ll be out of the house or when you aren’t worried about minimizing distractions.
Audibly, it’s rated at 65dB while running, 63dB for mop washing, and 75dB when collecting dust into the bag. To put this in perspective, 65dB is about the volume of a normal conversation or an air conditioner running in the background. But it sounds to our ears to be slightly louder than that.
If you want something quieter, consider the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni, which offers a noise range from 33-46dB during regular operation and ranks among the best robot vacuum and mop combo devices you can buy right now.
It requires more maintenance than you might like

Both clean and dirty water tanks are removable and easily rinsed with soapy water in the sink.
While the maintenance after daily cleans is minimal, the regular maintenance requirements might be daunting. You should manually clean the roller mop, main brush, filter, water tray, and dirty water box on a weekly basis. This isn’t nearly as cumbersome as cleaning up after a regular mop and bucket setup, as noted, nor as laborious as manually emptying a vacuum dustbin after each clean. However, it still takes time to complete once a week or every two weeks, depending on how often you use the vacuum.
Thankfully, both water tanks are removable and easily rinsed with soapy water in the sink. You don’t necessarily have to give them a full clean more than every three months or so (though you might wish to clean the dirty water tank more frequently, especially after a deep clean of especially dirty floors).
You should also clean the side brush every few weeks, and you may need to periodically clear debris left in the small dustbin located on the robot itself (under the removable cover). It’s not a lot, but you’ll need to set aside time for regular maintenance and cleaning to keep the machine running at optimal levels for as long as possible.
The special cleaning solution it uses is not included
Like many robot mops, you need to use a special cleaning solution made by Ecovacs. This should be added monthly with one part cleaning solution and 200 parts water. That equates to about a third of one bottle for a full tank. One tank lasts for multiple cleans, but the cost still adds up.
Keep in mind that you can use plain water for lighter cleans if desired, or when you run out of cleaning solution and you’re waiting for replenishment to be delivered. The solution can be ordered online in single or double bottles or bundled with other accessories. So, you’ll need to add this recurring cost to the overall purchase price of the unit.
Warranty
The Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni comes with a standard one-year warranty from the date of purchase that protects against defects in material and workmanship. The warranty only applies to purchases made directly from Ecovacs or authorized dealers.
It does not cover defects resulting from improper installation, maintenance, or use, or from abuse, or from any alterations, modifications, or repairs made by unauthorized persons. The warranty is also void if you use parts that aren’t manufactured or supplied by Ecovacs. It also doesn’t cover use beyond the ratings, specifications, or intended use.
What Owners Are Saying About the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni
User comments all point to how well this robot vacuum and mop gets right up to corners and along baseboards. Customers do disagree on a few things, as usual.
Ecovacs website: Customers who have purchased the vacuum and mop directly from Ecovacs love the roller mop and how it extends from the robot itself to clean along the edges of walls. Many, however, admit that you may still need to do some light touch-up cleaning afterward. They also appreciate the granular control offered by the app.
Amazon: Amazon shoppers rate the vacuum 4.4 stars overall out of 5, loving how it maintains itself (for the most part) through daily cleanings. They love how effortless it glides over (and cleans!) all types of surfaces. Another appreciated feature is how the dock both cleans and sanitizes the mop with hot water.
Best Buy: Referring to this model as a “solid addition to the household” and a good replacement if you have been hanging onto an older model, shoppers agree with my assessment that it’s fast. Others disagree with my noise-level findings, saying it is quiet enough to run while a baby is napping.
Beyond the usual comments, the most common relevant complaints are that the Ecovacs X8 Pro Omni struggles to navigate around table and chair legs and doesn’t handle the transition from floor to carpet if there’s dirt trapped between the surfaces. Many also say hair often gets tangled on the roller brush, requiring it to be manually cut or pulled away. However, overall, reviews are positive, with buyers appreciating the smarts, cleaning prowess, and self-cleaning feature.
Should you buy the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni
Yes, if you’re looking for a robot vacuum and mop in one

It can scale small level changes between a dining room and kitchen, navigate with ease over all types of surfaces, and lift itself like a cat to get over the raised edge of a carpet.
The Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni (available at Best Buy for $1,399.99) is a solid option if you’re looking for a robot vacuum that also doubles as a mop. You get effective cleaning with intelligent navigation and efficiency as it glides quickly across floors and carpets, getting right up to the edges of walls and effortlessly scaling small inclines. While the robot requires periodic maintenance to keep things running smoothly, including washing the tanks, refilling the water and cleaning solution, and cleaning various parts according to the recommended schedule, you’ll love this new companion.
It's best suited to larger homes that have a good mix of hardwood flooring, tiles, and carpets. If you have even thick carpets, this machine will do a great job and won’t have any issues navigating from one surface type to the other. It intelligently knows when to wet mop and when to dry vacuum, so it can beautifully clean your entire home while you sit back, relax, and watch it do its thing.
