The Nest Thermostat, Protect smoke alarm, and Indoor and Outdoor Cams are cool home gadgets in and of themselves, but many people don’t realize how many other smart home devices can be connected to Nest. Here are eight cool smart home hacks you can employ by syncing your Nest product with other connected devices.
1. Put on makeup with ease.
The right lighting is key when you're putting on makeup, and when you pair your Nest cam with the SimpleHuman smart mirror, you'll always have natural lighting that's perfect for pampering. The mirror uses your Nest Cam to analyze the surrounding light and adjust itself for more accurate makeup application.
2. Turn off lights that you left on.
If you’re forever leaving lights on when you’re rushing out of the house, Nest can turn them off for you when paired with Philips Hue light bulbs.
3. Connect with your fitness tracker.
It might seem silly to connect your Nest with your fitness tracker, but there’s actually a surprising benefit. Misfit fitness trackers can sync with your Nest Thermostat and automatically adjust the temperature when you wake up. No more cold feet in the morning!
4. See who’s at your door.
The August Smart Lock can tell you when someone unlocks your door, and when you connect it to a Nest Cam, you’ll be able to see exactly who your visitor is.
5. Enable voice control with Alexa and Amazon Echo.
Your Amazon Echo can connect to a variety of smart gadgets, including the Nest Thermostat. All you have to do is ask Alexa to adjust the temperature, and she’ll do the rest.
6. Keep tabs on your pet.
Concerned that your cat or dog isn’t eating enough? Keep track of how much your pet is eating by pairing your Nest Cam with the Petnet SmartFeeder. Whenever Fido or Fluffy chows down, you’ll get pictures via the app.
7. Turn your lights into a fire alarm.
If you worry that your family won’t hear Nest Protect’s warning in case of a fire, LIFX smart light bulbs can link up with the device to provide an additional alert. In case of an emergency, the bulbs will flash red, letting you know there’s a problem.
8. Save energy when you’re away.
You’ve invested money in your Nest product, so let it help you save money in return. Using the Nest app, Wemo Switches can be set to automatically turn off unused appliances, saving you energy every day with no unplugging required!
