Setup and software

Both printers support wireless setup from a phone and have solid companion apps.

The HP app is more functional, with customizable shortcuts and smart-guided buttons that illuminate on the printer to walk you through common tasks. Epson's Smart Panel app handles the basics well and adds voice-activated printing through compatible smart home devices. For everyday printing, copying, and scanning, both apps get the job done without getting in the way.
