Canon today announced two new superzoom cameras, adding to its formidable SX camera lineup. The two models include the brand-new 30x zoom SX400 IS, and the SX520 IS, which will replace the existing SX510 IS.

The SX520 IS boasts some new upgraded duds, along with a 42x zoom lens (24-1008mm 35mm equivalent), 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, and DIGIC 4+ processor. Hoping to improve fast motion performance, this camera also prominently features high-speed autofocus and "Intelligent" image stabilization for fewer shaky shots when zooming in.

For the creative shooter, this camera also offers 32 pre-defined scene modes for still shots, as well as 21 movie scene modes. Able to shoot said movies in full 1080p HD, the SX520 IS also boasts a mini HDMI port for quickly showing these shots off on your TV.

The SX400 IS is the lower-end model of today's announcements, shipping with a new 30x (24-720mm equivalent) zoom lens, a 16-megapixel CCD sensor, and the same DIGIC 4+ processor. Though it's a more entry-level camera than the SX520 IS, the SX400 IS retains many of the same speed-oriented features like high speed autofocus, and optical image stabilization. Video on the SX400 IS is a little lower res at 720p, however, likely owing the use of a CCD sensor.

The SX520 IS hits shelves in September 2014 for $399.99 while the more budget-minded buyer can snag the SX400 IS as soon as August in black or red for $249.99. As far as we know the other existing SX-series cameras will continue to be available at retail for the time being.
